Former President Donald Trump is unharmed after Secret Service agents opened fire on a gunman at his West Palm Beach golf club, marking the second apparent assassination attempt against him. The suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, fled the scene but was arrested soon after. Agents spotted Routh pointing a rifle through a fence, and authorities later found an AK-style rifle, backpacks, and a camera, suggesting he intended to film the incident. The FBI is investigating the event as an assassination attempt.
Trump assured supporters that he is “safe and well” and remains undeterred. This follows a similar incident two months ago in Pennsylvania, where a gunman wounded Trump and killed a bystander during a rally.
A White House official said President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed about the shooting. “I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” Harris said in a post on X.
