USDA’s initial look at 2025-26 marketing year

These initial projections released as part of the Ag Outlook Forum are based on the February WASDE Report.

Based on the February WASDE Report, USDA projects the following:

Corn: Planted acreage of 94.0 million, with harvested acres of 86.1 million. A national average corn yield of 181.0 bu. per acre would produce a crop of 15.585 billion bushels. Total use is projected at 15.185 billion bu., with feed and residual use of 5.900 billion bu., food, seed & industrial use of 6.885 billion bu. 5.500 billion bu. for ethanol) and exports of 2.400 billion bushels. Ending stocks: 1.965 billion bushels (12.9% stocks:use). Price: $4.20.

Soybeans: Planted acreage of 84.0 million, with harvested acres at 83.2 million. A national average bean yield of 52.5 bu. per acre would result in a crop of 4.370 billion bushels. Total use is projected at 4.450 billion bu., including 2.475 billion bu. of crush and exports of 1.865 billion bushels. Ending stocks: 320 million bushels (7.2% stocks:use). Price: $10.00.

Wheat: Planted acreage of 47.0 million, with harvested acres at 38.4 million. A national average yield of 50.1 bu. per acre would produce a crop of 1.926 billion bushels. Total domestic use is projected at 1.154 billion bu., with exports forecast at 850 million bushels. Ending stocks: 826 million bushels (41.2% stocks:use). Price: $5.50.

Cotton: Planted acreage of 10.0 million, with harvested acres at 8.41 million and a national average yield of 833 lbs. per acre. That would produce a crop of 14.60 million bales. Total use is projected at 14.7 million bales, including exports of 13.0 million bales. Ending stocks: 4.8 million bales (32.7% stocks:use). Price: 65.0¢.

Cattle: U.S. beef production is projected at 26.6 billion lbs., down nearly 2% from 2024. Exports are projected at 3.00 billion lbs., down 1% from last year. Cash price: a record $201.00, up $13.88 from last year.

Hogs: U.S. pork production is projected at 28.5 billion lbs., up 3% from last year. Exports are expected to increase 3% to 7.30 billion pounds. Cash price: $65.00, up $3.44 from last year.

Broilers: U.S. production is projected to be 47.1 billion lbs., up 1% from last year. Broiler meat exports projected at 6.61 billion lbs., down 2% from 2024. Wholesale broiler price: $1.32 per lb., up 3 cents from last year.

Dairy: Milk production is projected to rise 0.5% from last year to 226.9 billion pounds. The all-milk price is projected to be $22.60 per cwt., down a penny from 2024.

Eggs: U.S. egg production in 2025 is expected to be 8.96 billion dozen, nearly a 1% decline from 2024. This outlook is based on the assumption of no additional animal disease outbreaks from what was reported at the time of the February WASDE. New York wholesale egg prices are forecast to average $4.44 per dozen, up $1.41 from last year.
