USDA rated 75% of the corn crop and 74% of the spring wheat crop as “good” to “excellent,” up 11 points and 10 points, respectively from year-ago. When USDA’s initial condition ratings are plugged into the weighted Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index (CCI; 0 to 500-point scale, with 500 representing perfect), the corn crop started the growing season with a rating of 385.6, up 19.9 points from last year at this time.

The initial spring wheat CCI rating of 378.6 was up 8.4 points from last year.
