Iowa’s 2024 statewide average cash rent is $279 an acre, according to Iowa State University. It’s annual spring survey of farmers, landlords and land professionals found this year’s average remained unchanged from a year earlier, which was a record high.
Looking at survey data by crop districts finds district 3, the northeast, with the highest average cash rent at $309 an acre. It is followed by district 1, the northwest, with a $304 average. District 8, south central, lists the lowest average rent at $231 an acre. District 9, the southeast, is next lowest at $249 an acre.
On a county-average basis, Dubuque sports the highest average at $349 an acre. It is followed by Osceola County with an average of $346. Cherokee reports an average of $340 an acre followed by Clayton-Fayette Counties with an average of $338 an acre.
Van Buren County reports the lowest county average at $182 with Appanoose-Wayne the next lowest at $186 an acre.
