On average, analysts surveyed by Reuters expect USDA will report the Sept. 1 hog herd around 77.101 million head, down 1.7% from year-ago. The breeding herd is expected to slide 1.1% from year-ago, with the number of hogs kept for market expected to slide 1.7% from year-ago. The only category expected to climb from year-ago levels is the number of pigs per litter. The following expectations are based on survey work by Reuters.
