Extreme heat didn’t hurt corn, soybean crop conditions as much as expected

Iowa and Nebraska led the CCI declines, while crops in Illinois improved.

When USDA’s weekly condition ratings are plugged into the weighted Pro Farmer Crop Condition Index (CCI; 0 to 500-point scale, with 500 representing perfect), the corn crop dropped 5.4 points to 350.1, which was still 2.6 points (0.8%) above last year at this time. The soybean crop fell 4.9 points to 344.0, which was 1.8 points (0.5%) below last year at the end of August.
